These veils or shields act as a device of personal sovereignty, as a denial of specular dissection. This protective covering functions as a temporary device used to separate one sense of self from the conventions that are used to determine the feminine self. Within each veil some features appear to egress through the surface, while others regress, remaining hidden or mask completely, serving to engage, while also resisting viewer.
