"...the way we eat represents our most profound engagement with the natural world. Daily, our eating turns nature into culture, transforming the body of the world into our bodies and minds." - Michael Pollan
This course provides a space for creative experimentation addressing the interdependence of our biological and cultural systems. Because an examination of human food systems offers an ideal site for identifying the interdependence of our cultural and biological world, we will focus our studies and activities on cultures & biologies of food production and consumption and investigate ways in which artists may effectively mediate in these processes. We will develop public art projects making use of available materials in response to our immediate surroundings while working in conjunction with food and sustainability efforts already underway at George Mason University.
No experience necessary; only a willingness to roll up your sleeves get your hands dirty.
