SubHerban Roots

SubHerban Roots

SubHerban Roots LLC was a 5 year project (2013-2018) by Beth Hall, Mark Cooley and Celia Cooley that explored the interdependence of ecological and human health through the practice of home-scale permaculture (land healing), the production of plant medicines (body healing), and community supported agriculture (CSA) (economic healing). The project saw the transformation of a 1/4 acre house lot in Warrenton, VA into an in-town permaculture farmette, which provided the family with food and provided medicinal plants for use in herbal preparations, which sold through local markets and CSA shares owned by community members. The project goal was to show that small-scale ecologically sound neighborhood farming can be a productive endeavor, healing both the land and the body, while supporting community and exploring alternate economies.
